Just as a way of saying thank you to everyone who has followed my blog, or YouTube channel, or just sent me a bit of anti-lid advice (ha!)…. I’m giving away a SOTABEAMS Band Hopper III+ antenna system! I’m absolutely sold on using dipoles for portable operations (when I can). They are proven performers! I’ve had such great success with my Band Hopper…

bandhopper.jpg

I have been completely humbled by the overall community of ham radio operators. Such a magnificent bunch of people! This is the least I could do to say thank you all for the support over the first couple of years! I’m looking forward to many more. I’m only just getting started…!

Giveaway is open to all licensed radio amateurs worldwide… want to enter? Just comment below with your callsign, or if you prefer, send me an email at k5acl@arrl.net with your call sign and place “Antenna Giveaway-Your call sign here” in the subject line. All entries must be entered by 23:59 UTC Aug 20, 2017. One entry per Licensed Amateur Radio Operator. I’ll collect all the entries & make a random drawing on August 21st, 2017 during the Solar Eclipse QSO Party! (Edit: If your comment doesn’t show up immediately, don’t worry, it’ll show up after I approve it unless you’ve commented on my blog before already)

Also a quick announcement that i’ll be headed to the Big Bend area this weekend (July 29/30) to activate either Big Bend National or State Park (haven’t decided which one yet). I plan on a Parks on the Air Activation, and hopefully if time permits, a SOTA activation from the Chisos Mountains! It has been a dream of mine to visit the Big Bend area since I was a kid. I’ll post future updates here on the blog & in the SOTA/POTA Facebook groups. This will be a special one for me, so if you can work me, I would be much obliged!

73

Johnny, K5ACL

(This giveaway is not sponsored in any part by SOTABEAMS – just giving away an excellent antenna system to one winner!)

Thanks for your generous offer. The antenna looks like a great addition to use with an Icom IC-718 when going on trips with Boy Scouts in our troop as well as for ARES/RACES exercises.

Keep up with the high quality videos. I enjoy viewing them and learning from you.

Excellent video. I am sorry I missed your earlier activation. I am just getting into the KFF movement. In fact, I am in the process of building a 30M dipole in hopes of possibly doing some FT-8 digital work from Devil’s Fork State Park (KFF-2892), which is near my home.
My anti-lid advice is this: “Don’t argue with an idiot on the air because other hams may get confused aboout who is the idiot.” That was passed down to me by my Elmer many years ago. I think that was good advice.
I have a KX-3 ready to go to the park. Better pack up some other gear too.
