I can’t believe I forgot about the BITX40 – I have been so busy recently with work, and the CW Academy class – which is finished BTW! woohoo! Now that I’ve got some free time on my hands, I’m going to finish assembling this thing and hopefully pass the smoke test & make a few QSOs on air.

I’ve been searching for the wiring diagrams on how to wire up the 3.5mm connectors so that when you plug in your headset, it cuts off the internal speaker that I’ve added inside the case (an 8 ohm Midland CB speaker). I finally found the above diagram in the BITX io group. I just used some superglue to keep the speaker in place. The instructions on the BITX40 website aren’t that great i’ll admit, and the pictures to accompany the instructions weren’t the best – some of it is left up to you to research – not sure if that’s a good idea with my limited kit assembly experience, lol.

The wire up is fairly simple though. I’ll also be adding a 1/4″ TRS chassis mount connector so that I can plug in the PTT switches that I already own to the unit, rather than use the tiny PTT switch that the unit came with. I plan on using my Yamaha CM500’s with the unit, and I’m also discovering that some electret microphones might require a resistor on the mic input – I guess i’ll find out soon enough if that’s the case.

Wish me luck!
