Held the Fall Quarterly meeting with the N5OAK Amateur Radio Club today at the SFFMA in Manchaca, TX. A big thank you to Jon, N5CFB & the SFFMA for allowing the N5OAK to use their facility for the N5OAK Quarterly Meetings, we are forever grateful! It’s only through the donations, facility space & tower space that we’ve received that have enabled the club to continue with such a force in Central Texas! Lots of folks are missing from the above photo, but if I were to take a rough guess, our club has around 120-130 active members? I think that’s pretty sweet!
The club has continued to grow over the past year. We experienced a small slump briefly and the club just took off! Lots of new faces and even new hams! What’s cool is that everyone seems to have a particular niche in ham radio their into! I feel so fortunate to have found this group of Amateur Radio operators. Seriously, I’ve heard horror stories of other hams experiences with clubs – I’ve experienced the absolute opposite!
Today, I was entrusted to the position of Secretary for the N5OAK – Oak Hill Amateur Radio Club. I hope that I can fulfill my duties with 110% effort. I’ve got all sorts of ‘out-of-the-box’ ideas for our club, I just hope y’all are ready 😉 A big thank you to all the club members for this opportunity, you won’t regret it. I’ve already been focusing on helping grow the club, spreading the word through social media, & constructing the website with the help of others. It’s amazing how much the club has grown in so little time. I’ve only been on the air two years, and I’ve seen the club double in size.
We’ve already started ramping up for Winter Field Day – which I suspect will be even sweeter than the last! Several locations have been identified, we’ll get one nailed down here shortly, but I suspect it will be at KG5PWA’s location again! We’re going to have a land clearing party to get it started! At least we’ll have plenty of firewood…
