It’s finally here. The trip I’ve been waiting for, for what seems a lifetime (ok maybe just a few months). This weekend, myself, N5CFB, N5MDB & K5JM are headed to my absolute ‘favorite spot’ on this planet. You heard me right – my favorite spot. I’ve travelled the world over – and I’ve never experienced a place quite like West Texas. It’s like a universe within itself. You’ve got to be willing to drive through some pretty desolate areas to get there though. Once you’ve entered what I consider to be West Texas, you will know. The landscape changes into something so serene, and so isolated! A place like no other. Heavenly some might call it….
A SOTA operation is planned for Mount Locke on Sunday the 19th. I hope to be setup by 1800 UTC and operating on 17/20 or 40m depending on the ARRL sweepstakes & if I can find a clear spot on the bands. Also lugging my VHF/UHF gear up to the summit to see if I can catch any 2m/70cm action from any of the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club members! SO-50 & AO-85 have a few passes over some rare grids out there this weekend too, so if I play my cards right i’ll be able to squeeze in a satellite op while we’re out 4 wheeling the Chinati Mountains.
Look for us on the bands this weekend, either SOTA, Satellite or just some of our rogue operating! Should make for one very fun event… Cell phone coverage is limited out there, so I’ll have limited access. Please spot me on the DX cluster if possible!
Track me on APRS here.
